Dr. Divya Desai, OTD, MS, OTR/L, LSVT, CEAS serves as a capstone coordinator in the OTD department at the University of the Pacific. She teaches courses related to capstone development with a focus on leadership development and project management. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes active learning, innovation, and the application of evidence to address real-world challenges faced by individuals, communities, and the healthcare system.

Dr. Desai brings nineteen years of combined experience in patient care and academia. Her clinical background includes physical rehabilitation, aging in place, and private practice, and she is passionate about helping students develop the skills needed to become effective problem-solvers and change agents. She incorporates experiential learning strategies into the classroom, including simulation activities, educational games, community partnerships, and project-based learning experiences. Her commitment to mentorship supports students as they navigate doctoral education, develop scholarly projects, and prepare for leadership roles within the profession.  

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Desai collaborates with community organizations and international partners to advance occupational therapy education and practice. She is actively involved in initiatives that promote global engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovative approaches to healthcare and education. Through her work, she strives to foster meaningful learning experiences that prepare students to address emerging societal needs and improve participation and quality of life for diverse populations. 

Research Focus

Dr. Desai’s scholarship focuses on improving the quality of life of patients with Parkinson’s disease and the development of innovative educational approaches that enhance students' learning and professional competence. Her research explores experiential and game-based learning strategies, capstone education, and project management in occupational therapy. She is also interested in global occupational therapy education and collaborative international initiatives that strengthen evidence-informed practice and workforce development across diverse cultural contexts.
