Megan Duncan
Dr. Megan Duncan, EdD, MSn-Ed, RN, NPD-BC an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of the Pacific. She brings more than 28 years of nursing experience spanning pediatrics, leadership, professional development, and nursing education. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to developing nurses across the continuum of practice, from students and new graduates to experienced clinicians and nurse leaders.
Dr. Duncan leads initiatives focused on nurse residency, competency management, preceptor development, and evidence-based practice. She has designed and implemented Nurse Residency Program, facilitated the redesign of the Evidence-Based Practice and Research Council as the council chair, and has led the implementation of innovative professional development programs, competency frameworks, and onboarding processes. She also serves as a mentor and professional coach, supporting nurses in their career advancement and leadership development.
In academia, Dr. Duncan served in faculty roles at the University of the Pacific, Pacific Union College, Chamberlain University, Holy Names University, Samuel Merritt University, and Blake Austin College. Her teaching philosophy is grounded in Transformative Learning Theory and emphasizes active engagement, critical thinking, and the development of clinical reasoning skills.
Dr. Duncan earned a Doctor of Education from Abilene Christian University, where her dissertation explored barriers to implementing formal mentoring programs in nursing schools. She also holds a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University. Her scholarly interests include mentoring, transition to practice, preceptor development, nursing professional development, and evidence-based practice.
A recognized leader in nursing professional development, Dr. Duncan is board certified in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC), serves on the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) Board of Editors, and is an ANPD Leadership Academy Mentor. She has presented nationally and internationally on topics including mentoring, preceptor development, and nursing education.
