Whitney Weber
Whitney Weber, DrPH, MPH has a background in health informatics, health policy, health care operations, public health emergency management, population health improvement projects, and community engagement and collaboration. She leads the Culminating Project experiences in the ELMSN program, where she connects with community-based organizations and clinical partners to develop and support impactful student projects that enhance outcomes for patients and communities.
While at the University of Minnesota, she gained experience in community-engaged learning, health services research, and community-based participatory research projects. She was then a Maternal and Child Health Specialist with Peace Corps in Guatemala, where she focused on reducing malnutrition, building local capacity, skills strengthening for health personnel, and community health education. While a Fellow with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), she developed policy positions and evidence-based public communications on chemical safety. At the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, she developed and supported public health programs, funding opportunities, technical assistance, and health services program oversight.
Dr. Weber has a passion for health informatics after seeing opportunities in the course of her work to enhance population health and emergency management through the strategic application of technology and data. Dr. Weber’s doctoral dissertation focused on the potential of technology and data-driven approaches to predict and mitigate health and mortality risk for populations that have heightened vulnerability during natural disasters. At the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), she led a project to standardize electronic health record (EHR) data for occupational health and public health technology use cases. While at the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), she coordinated health IT policy initiatives and promoted social and environmental health vocabulary standards uptake across health care and public health settings.

Dr. Weber is committed to facilitating a welcoming and engaging environment that promotes wellbeing for all students to further their success and goals. She incorporates evidence-based teaching methodologies in the while connecting course material to applied practice scenarios, current events, and the needs and realities of local communities. With a focus on preparing learners for dynamic professional environments and a changing world, she incorporates critical thinking, interprofessional approaches, technology trends, and awareness of societal dynamics into learning experiences.
