Students secure San Francisco 49ers internships
Miles Ryan ’26 and Juliana Alexander ’24, ’27
Two University of the Pacific students have been selected for prestigious internships with the San Francisco 49ers, earning the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with one of the NFL’s most respected organizations.
Miles Ryan ’26 and Juliana Alexander ’24, ’27 are among just 18 interns chosen for the nine-month internship program that runs July through February.
"The San Francisco 49ers Internship is designed to give opportunities to individuals navigating careers in professional sports," said, Senior Director, Inclusion & Culture at the 49ers Christina Jefferson. "We are excited to welcome Miles and Juliana to the team this July and witness their positive contributions this season."
Miles Ryan
Ryan, who majored in sport management and analytics, will assist the Partnership Marketing Team. In the role, he will support several large-scale partner accounts by participating in weekly meetings with partner contacts and helping with asset management and fulfillment.
“I'm excited to see things that I've learned in class and throughout my major put into practice,” said Ryan. “In class we learn about sponsorship, partnerships, tickets, and I’m excited to see that fire on all cylinders. I can’t wait to get started and work with a great organization and I'm just excited to get to put some of my skills from Pacific to use.”
Ryan also will assist with sponsor activations and game-day operations at Levi's® Stadium and help execute events and campaigns throughout the season.
This is not Ryan’s first experience working with professional football. He recently completed an internship working at Super Bowl LX as one of two Pacific students helping behind the scenes to coordinate media access and support the NFL communications team.
“I've always loved sports, everything about them, but especially the business side behind it. I think there's a lot of ways that we can still grow and maximize the accessibility of sports and be able to give other people the opportunity to go to a game and enjoy the experience, and be there, and see their team play, see their team win, see their team lose. I think it's important,” Ryan said.
Juliana Alexander
Alexander, who earned her bachelor's degree in communication from Pacific and is currently working on her master’s degree, will serve as an engagement marketing intern. A former member of Pacific’s women’s soccer team, she will support fan engagement and event marketing initiatives through promotional events, activation planning, operational support and marketing fulfillment.
“My long-term goals have always been to work in the sports industry, and I'm really excited for this internship, because it's going to give me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, especially with a professional sports organization,” Alexander said. “There's a lot of industry professionals within the 49ers organization, so I think it's going to be a really exciting chance to learn from them, and at the same time, use that to build on what I've learned at Pacific.”
In her role, Alexander will help coordinate game-day and event associates, contribute to strategies designed to increase attendance and fan participation, maintain programming and content calendars and track digital analytics. Alexander also will conduct industry research and monitor marketing trends to support fan engagement efforts throughout the season.
“I think Pacific played a huge role in preparing me for this opportunity. As a student athlete, I learned discipline, teamwork, time management and other skills that go into being a devoted team player,” Alexander said. “I think that strong communication and strategic thinking is going to tie into what I'm going to be doing at the 49ers. My experience working on the Pacific Athletics digital media team also gave me hands-on experience creating content, working in sports media, things like that. Beyond that, the support from my faculty coaches and other mentors throughout my time at Pacific is really going to propel me forward in this internship.”
